Working does not mean actively maintained

A WordPress plugin may continue functioning long after its developer has stopped maintaining it. The problem is that future compatibility issues or newly discovered vulnerabilities may never receive a fix.

Regularly reviewing installed plugins makes it easier to identify extensions that are no longer needed or no longer maintained. Removing unnecessary plugins and replacing abandoned software with actively supported alternatives reduces the attack surface of a WordPress installation while also simplifying ongoing maintenance.
