A backup should survive the incident

If a backup exists only on the same system as the data it protects, a serious failure can affect both. Independent storage removes much of that shared dependency.

For hosting infrastructure, keeping copies on a separate destination adds an important layer of resilience. Backups are only one part of a recovery strategy, but physical and operational separation becomes especially valuable when a real infrastructure incident occurs.
